Happy Mother's Day

Hope that you all have a wonderful Mother's Day.

I had so much fun creating this card.   As you can probably tell, it has been die cut, embossed, sponged, paper bent to add dimension, and layered.   One card with many possibilities.

The flowers were cut using the Journey Platinum Machine and the steel rule die called:  Summer Bouquet SR-0017.  Please note that this is a LARGER die and it measures 8 1/2" x 11 1/2".  It needs the larger cutting area that the Journey Platinum Machine has.  It will not fit into a machine that has a smaller cutting area.   The larger cutting area is one of the many reasons why I love this machine so much.  

Cut out the flowers, then emboss, then sponge the color that you want to accent it with.  The base of the embossed petals is actually Lemon Drop Card Stock.  I sponged Sweet Berry ink over the top.  Totally changes the look of the flower petals.   

This is for Mother's Day but could be used for any occasion you wanted.  Just changed out the sentiment.

Fun Stampers Journey Clear Pigment Ink to Create a Background

When you use Clear Pigment Ink on stamps that will be stamped on card stock, the stamped image takes on the color of the card stock and gives it a deeper shade for the stamped image.  In the photo above I used it with the Stuck on You Stamp Set and Limeade Splash and River Stone Card Stocks.

Experiment with the card stock you have on hand.   Fun to create your own background designs too.   Not all color will work with this technique.   Black Licorice would be too dark to show the stamped image clearly.   

The Simply Beautiful sentiment is part of the Stuck on You stamp and there is even a matching die set.   The die set is on back-order until May 20th.  Just an FYI.

I cut the square and the tag using dies.   The tag was sponged on the edges and over the top of the sentiment.

River Stone (gray) square is adhered flat to the card base.  The Whip Cream Tag piece was added on with Journey Foam Squares to add dimension to the card front.    Also added in Candy Dots to the tag.

Another use (not in the above sample) 
The Clear Pigment Ink Pad is also used with Embossing Powders.
  1.  Stamp your image using the Clear Pigment Ink Pad
  2.  Sprinkle with our embossing powder
  3.  Now heat set uing our Journey Heat Gun
This will give a really nice raised finish.   We have Journey Clear, Journey White, Journey Gold, and Journey Silver Embossing Powders.  Pg 209 of the current main catalog.

Come Fly ATS Stamp and Cloud Background Mini Tutorial

Fun Stampers Journey has this really cute ATS stamp set called Come Fly AT-0117 that is retiring (only available while supplies last).   I made two cards using this stamp set.   One was for friends' engagement and the other to use as a birthday card.

The stamp set comes with 5 stamps:   Sea plane, banner, Missing You, Happy Birthday, and Come fly with me.  I hand printed the couple's names on the banner.  The Happy Birthday was done with one of the stamps in the set.

I set the plane and the banner on a clear block to stamp at one time.   Ink up the stamps and stamped on Whip Cream Card Stock.   Then fancy cut around the stamped image.   I did hand draw in a short mark from the plane to the banner.  Then added in Journey Foam Squares to the back before adding to my cloud background.  

I created my own background clouds using a scallop circle, a Fusion Ink Sponge, and the Blue Lagoon Ink Pad.

Punch out a 2" Scallop Circle

Ink the end of your Fusion Ink Sponge with Blue Lagoon Ink Pad (or color of your choice)

Place scallop circle on the Whip Cream Card Stock and sponge the edges of part of it.  

Re-position the scallop circle and repeat.   

Fill in as much or as little as you would like.

For the clouds, there is no right or wrong way.  Just keeping adding in until you have them the way you want them.   You could add in other colors too to change the look. 

Notes:   

Fusion Ink Sponges come 3 to a pack.   I cut mine into 4 or 6 pieces to use.

Nautical Adventure Prints - FSJ Spring Into Summer Mini Catalog Product

Don't forget that specialty paper may be used for borders, accents, backgrounds, and so much more.  Look at the designs closely and then visualize what you can create from them.   I made the design below using two different pieces of paper from the Nautical Adventure Prints

The border on the bottom was a leftover piece of paper/card stock from another card I designed.   It was on the table where I was working when I realized it really looked cute with the sailboat oval for my card above.   It changed the layout I had planned.   I like this one so much better.

Offsetting the ovals added to the look too.   When I set the sentiment centered on the sailboats, the sailboats were pretty much covered up.   This way made them "POP".

Artful Owl is Retiring from Fun Stampers Journey Line of ATS Stamps

It is nice to have stamps that can be used simply stamped or enhanced by adding color to them with watercolors, pencils, or markers.  The owl is one of these types of stamps.  If you would like a softer look to him, stamp him in a brown shade and color in.  I fancy cut him out by hand.
