First Time User - Color Burst Watercolor Powders and Liquid Metallics Review

My friend, Gina, sent me seven Color Burst Watercolor Powders and Liquid Metallics.   These are Ken Oliver Crafts products.   I have never used them before and couldn't wait to try them.   There are so many different ways to use them including using a paint brush!   Lots of "how to use" videos on YouTube also.

Here are the results of my two days of playing with these products.

Painted on with a paint brush.
Metallics are a liquid which can be used as is or thinned with water.
Solid colors are a powder.   Add water to use.

Powders tapped onto the watercolor paper.
Spritzed with water, then allowed to dry.
LOVE THIS.

Used both types on this one.
Filled in background with water, then dropped on the powder and
metallics.   Free form.

All powder colors on this one.
Tapped powder on the watercolor paper, then spritzed with water.
Amazing the designs that form.

Review:

Pros:

Huge variety of colors.
Deep rich pigment.
Ability to tone down with water.
Now carried in many stores and on-line.
Easy to use.
Versatile, so many ways to use it.

Cons:

Work in a contained area if creating backgrounds.   The powders can travel.
Wear an apron while using these to avoid pigment getting on your clothes.
Took a couple washing to get the color off my fingers.
NOTE:   The cons are nothing that would prevent me from buying this product or using it.

I would recommend the product.   It is fairly priced.   The bottles will last quite a while not just for a couple of projects.

Thank you for stopping by my blog today.

Delightful Circles From Spellbinders

I have been busy playing with some items in my stash from Fun Stampers Journey, and Spellbinders.  Some of the things I have had for ages, but it's time to get them out and use them.   I know if you are like me, you have things in your stash too just waiting to be used.

A Day of Butterflies - Note Cards

I love butterflies and was so excited to find a set of laser cut chipboard ones from Bo Bunny.   Chipboard can be easily covered with Fun Stampers Journey Silks to completely give them a metallic look (or any color you would like).  For these, I used both the Bronze and the Silver Silks from Fun Stampers Journey.

Cardstock & Silks - Fun Stampers Journey

No sentiments on my cards today.   I wanted them for note cards, that I could use for any occasion.   I discovered that the Journey Glaze works GREAT to adhere the chipboard to my card background.   After I glued it on, I placed the card upside down on plastic and weighted it down so that it would help spread the glaze and keep the butterfly flat.   Worked extremely well.

Day Two of Positive And Negative Die Cuts - Christmas Cards

I'm having so much fun creating with the die cuts (positive) and the card stock the design was cut from (negative).   Some patterns work better than others, but it is fun to see how each one turns out.  I will add a sentiment inside the card before mailing out.   Don't forget I had another sample on yesterdays blog post too.

The printed paper card stock was called:   'Tis the Season Prints PP-0034.  It was retired by Fun Stampers Journey over a year ago.  I just happened to have a package of it on hand, so used it for these.  Solid or printed card stock will work.   Use what you have on hand or create your own background paper with your favorite Christmas stamp set.

Remember with an intricate die like this, a Bloom Tool TO-0073 is a huge help in "brushing and poking" the little pieces out before removing the card stock from the die.

Using Both the Positive and the Negative of a Die Cut - Christmas Card

When you cut out a die, do you keep the image (positive) and throw away the paper remaining (negative)?  With this die I used a piece of Whip Cream Card Stock that was 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" so that when the image was cut out, that both the positive and the negative could be used to make cards.   I'm really pleased with the results.

Spellbinders Die:  Designer Series - Holiday - Deck the Halls S4-822

The first photo is using the positive side ... so just the cut image.   I used Nuvo Embellishment Mousse (Pure Platinum) to create a shiny, silver color.   The mousse was rubbed on with a Dauber Dowel (small).   It went on smoothly and dried instantly.   Easy clean up with soap and water.   This was my first time using this product.   Very pleased with the result.  Would recommend.

I glued the die cuts onto the black card base with FSJ Journey Glue.  If you use a dark card base, be sure to had a white insert inside for the sentiment.

This photo is of the negative of the die cut.   Normally I would just toss, but realized this worked well too.  I added in Rainbow Drops.   Pearls or rhinestones may have been a better choice as the colors tone darker against the back.  I've added these to the supply list below, we have so many choices.

White Liner Tape (double sided) and Journey Craft Glue were used to adhere the negative side to the card base.
