Cottage Bouquet and Many Thanks Stamp Sets - FSJ Convention Card - Fun Stampers Journey Products

Who would of thought that a paper plate would be a great "tool" for creating this beautiful card!

The rounded edge of the card front was created by using a small round paper plate.  It was placed on the card front and with a pencil, I drew the rounded edge.   We actually did 7 circles of colors using liquid colors, then stamped the image on top of that.   You can fussy cut the flowers or use the die set that matches Cottage Bouquet.   Sparkle Silk, sequins, Journey Glaze and Sparkle Dust

Just Because Stamp Set & Die Set Bundle To Retire - Fun Stampers Journey Products

Oh my gosh, this is one of my most used "sentiments" and I love the flower that comes with the set.   I must admit I don't have the die that goes with it as the stamped images were easy to fussy cut.   The Just Because Stamp Set, Die Set, and the Bundle will all be on sale as of May 1.

Thinking Outside the Box - Using the Vagabond Chips Container - Fun Stampers Journey Products

One of our brand new products this quarter is the Vagabond Chips AC-0354.   It contains 45 pieces.  There are 9 designs with 5 of each design included.

When I first got the chips (they are chipboard), I was trying to think of ways to use them on cards.   Then I started to about the box itself and what I could use it for.   It's a little larger than 3 1/2 x 3 1/2 overall in dimension.   Each box is about 1 1/4 x 1 1/4.   What could I make with it.   I knew I wanted to paint it. So I got out my Whip Cream Acrylic Paint and set to work.

If I do it again and plan to let the paint show, I will sand the edges of the container first to give it a smoother appearance.   The sponge brush was OK, but I found that I liked using a regular paint brush better for this.  It allowed me to get into the corners much easier.

Idea #1:  I glued in punched out squares (1 1/4 x 1 1/4 ... that had to be slightly trimmed to fit) of Black Licorice Card Stock.   Used our Journey Craft Glue for that.  Thought the buttons looked cute.    Felt I could add in flowers or others things into the little box areas.

Idea #2:  The kid in me came out with this idea.   Why not make it a Tic-Tac-Toe Board using our Vagabuttons.  Ten buttons would be needed.   The Vagabuttons I believe are wood.  One side is plain, the other side printed.   Makes for a compact playing board, just add some type of drawstring bag for it to be kept in.

Idea #3:  Created a travel theme shadow box using one of each design of the chips.   I left them plain, but they could be easily colored in with Silks, Splashed, Acrylic Paint, Re-Inkers, or even our Ink Pads.   The sky is the limit.

Idea #4 and the design I made permanent (I only had one box to work with):  I wanted a cute shadow box that was cheerful, bright, and unique.   I think I hit the nail on the head with this one.   The Vagabond Chips were colored in with Silks.   The flowers were cut out from the Blue Skies Stamp Set and colored in with our Color Burst Pencils.   I also coated them with Journey Glaze and Sparkle Cuts.   Each one of the Vagabuttons was coated with Sparkle Silk.  Then when dried, I added in the twine and/or thread bows.

The Vagabond Chips and Flowers were raised up using Journey Foam Squares.   I also used Journey Craft Glue to adhere the buttons in place.

The box was a bit too plain for me, so I added in Gingham Lavender Fusion Ribbon (using White Liner Tape to adhere to the box).   Accented the box with ribbons I made and also Rainbow Drops.   Ribbons and Rainbow Drops were attached with Glue Dots.   Since I had carried the ribbon to the back of the box, I decided to cover it with a square of card stock to give it a finished look.  A small hook could be added to it.  I had a small wooden easel that I set my shadow box on.

Hero City Die - Follow Your Dreams Hot Air Balloons - Fun Stampers Journey Products

I have to be honest, I never wanted the Hero City UNTIL I saw the Follow Your Dream (hot air balloon embellishments).   When I saw them I could envision the card in my mind.   I had to have both items!!!!

The card went together easily.   I used retired printed paper that I had for the background, but you could easily used Splashes, PanPastels, Fusion Inks to create the background yourself. 

Card base is Lemon Drop.
City is Black Licorice.
Ink for Sentiment is Black Licorice.

I adhered the background to the card base with our Journey Craft Glue.   Then cut out the City Die and placed it on the background with the Craft Glue also.    The hot air balloon is already layered and has a large foam square on the back.   Also used the foam squares on the sentiment when I placed it on the card.

The inside of the card could be left black for a handwritten note or stamped inside too.

Mixed Media Project Tutorial - WOW - Fun Stampers Journey Products

Here are 3 versions of the same tree.   The 2nd and 3rd were created using the Gel Press and our Fun Stampers Journey Acrylic Paints.   The first one is the stamped image using Fresh Forest Ink Pad. 

Inspiration hit the other night and I couldn't wait to see if my idea would work.   I had done a technique using mirrored words on the Gel Press the other day, and began to wonder if I did something similar with a stamped image if it would work.

I stamped my image on Whip Cream Card Stock CS-0040 using Fresh Forest Stamp Pad IP-0013.

After stamping the image, I placed it "underneath" the Gel Press JM-0107.  Because the Gel Press is clear, the image shows through extremely well.

I used Green Olive Acrylic Paint JM-0021 to create my tree on top of the Gel Press.  I was careful not to get it too thick.   Also did not completely fill in the tree, just tried to cover the same green areas seen in the stamped image underneath the Gel Press.    After painting the tree, I allowed it to dry (maybe 5 minutes - it was dry to the touch).

Then I started adding different colors of acrylic paint and using the brayer to add them in.  Any color will work, just stayed away from using the Green Olive as that would blend into my tree.    When my colors were in place, I then put a piece ow Whip Cream Card Stock over the Gel Press.  Pressing firmly over the card stock.   I let it dry for a while (maybe 5 to 8 minutes) and this was the result when I did the pull:

As you can tell not all of the tree pulled up.  I hadn't waited long enough for the paint to dry.  I still like the print, but know if I had waited just a bit longer more of the tree would be in the pull.

There was still quite a bit of paint left on my Gel Press.   So I decided to let that dry on the Gel Press (no card stock at this point).  Once dry, I covered the complete area with White Acrylic Paint and immediately covered that with Whip Cream Card Stock.   I pressed firmly a number of times so that the card stock and the paint all came into contact with each other.   I walked away from my project and let it dry for 15 minutes.   This time I wanted to be sure most of the paint would come up with this pull.   This is called "let it ride" technique.    When I went back, I gently pulled my card stock off of the gel press.    This is the result:

Do you see how the rest of the tree came off with this pull, and textures from earlier are showing too!   It is so amazing what you can create.   I now have 2 beautiful card fronts to use and inspiration to make many more.

Yes, this took quite a bit of my time, and they are card fronts (or pieces of art) that I won't mass produce at any time.   But it was so worth my time and effort.  It allowed me to go outside of my comfort zone, and try.   With crafting ... with using the Gel Press ... with using Mixed Media, there is NO right or wrong in the outcome of your designs.  If something doesn't look the way you want it to, add to it.   Don't be afraid.   I could of stopped after my first pull.  I'm so glad I did the 2nd pull.

I'm Taking a Gel Press Class - Sneak Peek at my Creations - Fun Stampers Journey Products

I signed up for an on-line class for the Gel Press and am learning so much.  Plus having lots of fun in the process too.   The class is independent/not sponsored by Fun Stampers Journey.   It is allowing me to learn more and more about the Gel Press and just how fun and easy it is to use.

Here are some of my samples from the classes this last week.

This was done all with our Liquid Colors (pg 304 of the main catalog).  We were asked to color it in anyway that we wanted, and to give ourselves permission to have fun!!!   I am very pleased with the outcome, and actually may end up framing it.

These were all done with acrylic paint and the Gel Press.   Fun Stampers Journey sells acrylic paint in 16 different colors and also the Gel Press in an exclusive size (8 1/2 x 11).   These are on Pages 254 through 255 of the main catalog.    This lesson was called "Let it Ride".   It showed us how we could create new designs by leaving the previous colors/paints (works with inks and liquid color too) on the gel press and then covering them with new color(s) and pulling off the design.

This class was all centered around textures.   I took wood embellishments, die cuts, thread etc to create new images and designs in my gel press print.     See the flower type image in the green and purple pulls?   Further down in my post, I will show you the card I created AFTERWARDS with the wood embellishment.

If you click on the photos, it will enlarge the details for you.   The fine lines in these designs were created by wrapping Fun Stampers Journey Thread (page 327 of the main catalog) around my brayer and then rolling the brayer over the inks Gel Press.

The things I created sparked imagination and inspiration for me.  I could see them as backgrounds to cards, die cut into images for cards etc.   So many creative ideas from a few hours of fun.

This is the floral wooden piece (now retired) that I used to put texture and design on my gel press.   I let it dry completely and then used it on a thank you card.

The background to this card was created on the Gel Press with our True Color Fusion Inks (page 302 and 303) and the Polka Dot Wall Stencil JM-0085 on Pg 260.   There are so many stencils to choose from on Pages 260 - 261.   They are perfect with the Gel Press.   AND best of all, many of the stencils are on sale right now for 20% off including the Polka Dot Wall one I used for this card.

True Color Fusion Inks

"Dye Inks are permanent and translucent and have a thin consistency like water so they tend to dry  quickly. You can’t color in dye based stamped images with paint, markers, pens or other water-based mediums because the ink will run together. You can, however, use colored pencils. Many dye-based inks are acid-free, however the color fades over time, especially in sunlight. Dye inks have a felt-based stamp pad. Ink pads should be stored upside-down to keep the ink on the surface of the pad.  Pigment Inks are opaque and have a thicker, richer consistency than dye-based ink and take longer to dry. Pigment inks are usually brighter and more vibrant and are fade-resistant. They are perfect to use with heat embossing powders to create a glossy effect. Pigment inks have a foam-based stamp pad.   Ink pads are usually very juicy so should be stored right side up so you don’t get an inky mess.

True Color Fusion Ink Pads:  Now that we have defined the difference between pigment ink and dye  based ink, it is our thrill to share with you information about the FSJ ink pads, which are a hybrid ink pad, a marriage of dye and pigment ink – the True Color Fusion ink pad.

With our True Color Fusion Inks you have the best of the two worlds. Our ink pads have the vibrant  ink and archival features of pigment and the ease of use and fast drying characteristics of dye inks. True Color Fusion Inks are fade resistant and acid-free. This combination makes our ink pads the best on the market today.

True Fusion Color Inks will become permanent when stamped on glass, fabric, wood, plastic, metal and clay when heat set.

Embossing:

Our Whip Cream, Butter Cream and Clear Pigment ink will work for your embossing needs. Our Clear Pigment ink was created especially for embossing. The Whip Cream and Butter Cream ink pads are only pigment inks so they are sticky and take longer to dry. They also look great on our darker colors of cardstock.

Use & Care
 
• Hybrid ink pads should be stored right side up.

• Keeping the lid on your ink pads will assure they stay moist for longer periods of time and will help prevent those moments when you accidentally drop your completed project onto an open ink pad.

• Some of our ink colors will have a stronger smell because of the scent of the pure pigment used to create the rich color. Take the lid off and air out for a few seconds before use and then you will be good to go! 

    (Mary's Note:   The two ink pads I do not own are Lemon Drop and Limeade Splash - these are the two that have stronger odors.   I have NOT had any issues with the other ink pads and own all of them.)


Re-Inkers
 
Though you will easily get hundreds of stamped images from your fully inked ink pads, there will  come a time when you will want to freshen up and add a bit more ink. All of our ink pad colors have a color matching re-inker which allows you to easily add more ink to the pad and continue stamping.

To re-ink your ink pads, squeeze a few drops of ink onto the ink pad while allowing the tip to spread the ink throughout the entire pad. Squeeze and spread the ink vertically and then horizontally on the ink pad for complete coverage."

Create-a-Palette Creations - Fun Stampers Journey Products

Create-a-Palette is a brand new product (July 1, 2017) for Fun Stampers Journey.  I saw it demonstrated at convention last month and purchased one for myself.   Here's what it looks like brand new:

It has 5 sections for you to add color to using either our True Color Fusion Re-Inkers OR Liquid Colors.  Do not mix types of inks on your palette .... either use ALL re-inkers or ALL Liquid Colors.

For my Create-a-Palette I used:

Summer Days Re-Inker  RI-0042
Sweet Berry Re-Inker   RI-0010
Kiwi Slice Re-Inker   RI-0020
Huckleberry Fusion Re-Inker  RI-0012
Blue Lagoon Re-Inker  RI-0029
  All these colors are part of the Rich Sorbet Collection of colors.

I used the Sweet Poppy Stamp Set AT-0266 Set of 2 stamps for the flowers below and inked them with my Create-a-Palette shown above.

Each flower comes out uniquely different when using this stamp pad.   I fussy cut each one out and will use them on a card soon.

You know how much I love backgrounds.   I took the Create-a-Palette, setting it in a corner of my card stock and then pulling it in a circular motion over the card stock.  Moved the palette around the card to create these backgrounds.   Created 4 in all.   Love how much they look like stained glass.  These were created with ONLY using the Create-a-Palette stamp pad.

Isn't this unique and different.   Can't wait to make them into cards.

I will do a video very soon to show you how to ink the palette, create the flowers, and the backgrounds shown above.
