For Both Cards: 

I used a dauber dowel with pad to color in the Buffalo Check Stencil.  The background is Buttercream Cardstock and the ink pad to color in the stencil is Chambray Shirt.   I also used Chambray Shirt Card Stock.   Images were stamped with Black Licorice Ink Pad.

Summer Bouquet Steel Rule Die - Fun Stampers Journey Products

I wanted to show you a close-up of the Gel Press background I created using our Fun Stampers Journey acrylic paints and stencil (Ring Stacks - JM-0006).

I had the small foam letters from another project (not FSJ product), so thought they might look cute on this card.    The card is a mix of Gel Press background, die cut flowers, sequin trim, Rainbow Drops and the foam letters.  I like the texture, dimension and color of this card.   It just made me smile.    I did use our Journey Glaze as a glue on the back of the foam letters.   I wanted something that would adhere well and also dry clear.

While at convention, we were offered the opportunity to attend a Gel Press Certification Class.  Oh my gosh, it was so much fun to actually get to use our new Gel Press.   We experimented using our ink pads, stamps, and even some dies (cut side up ONLY - if you put cut side down you will cut into your Gel Press).

Here are the ones Hal created.  I think he did a great job.

1.  After removing stencil and putting paper on top of Gel Press.

2.  Putting paper on top of Gel Press to clean off - this is called a Ghost Print

3.  First print with stencil in place.

Using a brayer and ink pads created a solid background.

Then starting stamping the stamp onto the Gel Press, then stamping off on a piece of paper.

This is what it looks like AFTER the stamping off AND a piece of paper put on top of the Gel Press.

The following are my creations from the Gel Press class:

1.  Stamp off Image onto paper.

2.  Gel Press paper image after stamping off and laying a piece of paper on top.

3.  The large one image is from a die (cut side up).

 1.  With stencil in place on Gel Press.

2.  With stencil removed on Gel Press.

Go To Your Happy Place - Fun Stampers Journey Card

This card is a combination of a number of techniques:   Sponging with PanPastels; stamping with Clear Pigment Ink then using PanPastels over the top; stamping a background image, and then stamping and cutting out the trailer and sentiment.   I wish you could see the sparkle in the white background of the card.  I used the gold and silver PanPastels to create the glisten/sparkle.

This is a bit more involved than some of my cards, but so worth it!!!

1.  Using the PanPastel Sofft Tool (sponge):  Sponge over the whole background with silver then the gold.
2.  Stamp the Honeycomb design twice on the card front using Clear Pigment Ink.
3.  Immediately sponge the Summer Days PanPastel over the Honeycomb designs.  Summer Days is part of the Rich Sorbet PanPastel Collection.
4.  Now using Cocoa Powder ink, stamp the Thread Sketch stamp on your card front.
5.  On a separate piece of Whip Cream Card stock stamp the trailer image and the "Go To Your Happy Place" sentiment from the Happy Camper Stamp Set.  
6.  Use the trailer outline die from the Happy Camper Die set to cut the trailer out.
7.  Cut out the sentiment and do the piercing using the Journey Rectangles Dies.
8.  Sponge the edge of the sentiment with Turbo Teal Ink.
9.  Attach card background to the card base using Easy Glide Adhesive.
10.  Attach the trailer and the sentiment to the background piece using Journey Foam Squares.
11.  Don't forget to sign the back of the card to show who made it.

PanPastels - My First Project Using Them And a Sneak Peek

Here's my first creation using the new PanPastels from Fund Stampers Journey.  Did you notice the new Artist Trading Stamp:  Life Music AT-0180

For my card base I used the Falling Petals Stencil and the Confectionary Days PanPastels.   Using a sponge, I alternated colors on the stencil.  

On the background piece for the Music Life ATS, I sponged the PanPastels directly onto the cardstock to give contrasting looks to the card's backgrounds.  

 

NOTE:  I did find that with the stencil, there was a tendency for the chalk to come off on my fingers when handling that design.   With a stencil on smooth card stock, the PanPastels don't work into the grain/tooth of the paper because it is smooth.   When applying directly to the paper with no layer (like a stencil), the Pan Pastels grab the grain/tooth well and there is little or none coming off on your fingers when handling.   A fixative (we do not sell any type) could be used if you wanted.  Please do not use hairspray --- it may work, but can cause your creation to yellow in time.

 

Extra Note:  With stencils, a mixed media product like Journey Gesso (JM-0072) or Journey Modeling Paste (JM-0073) would be great.  Using a spatula go over the stencil that has been placed on your card base.  Smooth out, remove and clean stencil.  Once paste is dry (quick drying is my understanding) then use the PanPastels on it.   Gives texture and dimension to your design.  I just ordered both the Gesso and the Paste.   Will be trying them soon.

 

My Review:   After using the PanPastels the last few days with testing and creating cards, I really LOVE THEM!!!!   No regrets on this purchase.  I think they are very versatile, easy to use, not messy and the outcome is beautiful.  I still have lots to learn about them, but feel they would be a good product even for a beginning crafter.   So nice that the sets have a 5 piece Sofft Tool Set included.
