I purchased the FSJ unfinished wooden easel a few months ago after seeing a larger one used for a photo and paper flower display that Richard Garay (President and Co-Founder of Fun Stampers Journey) had created for a class. I just couldn't decide on what I wanted to do until the other day. Then inspiration hit big!!!!
I got out the easel, my paint, flowers, card stock and numerous stamp sets. It was fun trying out different sentiments, backdrop colors (card stock) and the arrangement of the flowers. I literally worked on this for a number of hours before finalizing it.
Directions:
The "Unfinished Wood Easel" JM-0061 (the is also a larger one JM-0062) is 8 1/2" x 9 3/4". It will hold an 8 1/2" x 5 1/4" creation. The easel was smooth and unfinished, no need to sand (or at least I didn't feel there was a need to sand it). I used FSJ acrylic paint (Riverstone JM-0024) which is a beautiful shade of gray. There are 8 different colors to choose from in our acrylic paint line. To paint it, I used a throw away sponge brush as this was my first time using the acrylic paints. Because the paint is acrylic, brushes can be washed out easily with soap and water. So next time, I will use the FSJ brushes to do the painting. Squeeze a small amount of the acrylic paint out onto a paper plate. Dip the brush into it and then start painting. I did the back and sides first - allowing it to dry before painting the front. The acrylic paint covered well, I just had to do a little bit of touch-up on a couple of spots. Allowed it to dry completely before moving on. Painted the back, all sides, and front of the easel. There are little legs that come with it, so it will stand on its own. I think I will make this a wall hanging and put a hook on the back instead.
After the paint had dried, I cut out a piece of our Journey Brush Silver Card Stock (8 1/2" x 5 1/4") and slid it into the frame area. I did glue it down using craft glue under the very edge. However, if you are planning to change out the background etc throughout the year, DO NOT glue the backdrop piece in place. This is a permanent decoration/wall hanging so I did glue everything into place rather than just gluing on the background sheet.
Pomegranate Splash Card /stock (5 1/2" x 4 1/4") was used as the backdrop/frame to the sentiment which was stamped on Whip Cream Card Stock (5" X 3 3/4"). Sentiment is from the stamp set called You Are and it contains one stamp. Glue them to the
Before gluing on the flowers (these are all from FSJ too), I laid them out on the easel in different patterns/layouts to see which way I felt looked the best. Then taking a hot glue gun (any brand), I glued each flower in place holding it down for a few seconds. Made sure I had good coverage on the bottom of each flower so it would hold into place.
